
WELCOME TO THE MISSISSIPPI CHAPTER OF SWANA
The Mississippi “Magnolia” Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) strives to promote excellence in solid waste management in Mississippi. Through the development of local and regional conferences and training seminars, and working with the SWANA International, Mississippi SWANA encourages environmentally and economically sound solid waste management practices.
Meet Mrs. Lakesha Weathers, Solid Waste Manager City of Jackson, MS.
Mrs. Weathers exemplifies professionalism in every aspect of her job. As the Solid Waste Manager, she is responsible for not only Solid Waste operations, but the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Services, Recycling, and Beautification Program, the City’s Landfill, Right of Way and Cemetery departments. In addition to her leadership and dedication, Mrs. Weathers has further strengthened the City’s solid waste operations by earning her MOLO (Manager of Landfill Operations) certification, a credential that reflects advanced expertise in landfill management. She also led the modernization of the City of Jackson’s Rubbish Facility, implementing upgraded systems, improved operational workflows, and enhanced compliance practices that significantly improved service delivery and environmental stewardship. Her positivity and management skills have allowed the department to thrive and overcome obstacles that have seemed impossible.
Mrs. Weathers truly deserves this recognition for her 25 years of dedication and hard work to the City of Jackson, MS.
